About Us
Award winning photography since 1981
Rick Cline's first experience in photography came at a young age while he was in the sport of surfing. But it wasn't until 1981 that he turned professional. A native Californian, Rick has since earned several awards for professional photography and photojournalism. His images have been published around the world in hundreds of publications including the National Enquirer and The Lost Angeles Times to name only two. In addition to photography Rick has written three books and enjoys many outdoor activities. A skilled water skier since he was a child, Rick captured the trophy in a speed ski race at the age of 34. Rick's first exposure to drag race came at Lions Drag Strip in Wilmington, California, around 1964. He once raced a 1955 Chevy at OCIR, Orange County International Raceway, in Irvine, California. Raised in a power-boat family who spent nearly every summer water-skiing, it seemed almost nature for Rick to take interest in drag boat racing. So, in 1981 he turned to the exciting sport and became deeply involved.
For about ten years, Rick was the unofficial historian for the IHBA. His race stories and photos appears in publications including; National Race Boat, IHBA's the Liquid Quarter Mile, Powerboat Magazine, Trailer Boats Magazine, Hot Boat Magazine, National Drag Boat and many others. Some might recall, Rick also covered circle boat, k-boat and unlimited hydroplane races, and did various work for the APBA. Following a terrible 1986 season in drag boat racing when the sport lost seven drivers he produced a high-quality full-color drag boat poster, "The Liquid Quarter Mile." Five years later in 1991 Rick followed it with another classic, "The Liquid Quarter Mile - Part 2." Both can still be purchased right here on our website.

While he is still active in the photography business Rick has recently revamped this website and due to many requests, just opened a new on-line store to again offer his racing photographs to the public. Our photo archives are the most complete and perhaps best ever for the years of 1981 to 1997. We have driver and racing statistics with additional data, many newspaper clippings, magazines etc., covering these memorable years of drag and circle boat racing.
Since departing drag boat racing in 1997, Rick Cline has ventured into the publishing business with R. A. Cline Publishing. And as mentioned above, written three books on World War II.
